Last Saturday night we went out to see some live entertainment and we loaded up the car with friends and family. When we go out, we try and see as many new bands and live acts as we can, but when people are with us they often want to see specific things. So all the bands we watched were the second time around for us, but it was still a lot of fun. As it !turned out, all three bands were completely different and we ended up seeing 80’s/90’s rock, country, and dance and R&B all in one night!

The Rayz

The first band we caught was The Rayz at Firehouse 47 in Ottawa Lake. The Rayz are a 4 member band that plays 80’s and 90’s classic rock. As a matter of fact, they started the night out with “Panama”. The Rayz are a lot of fun, and they play a lot of songs you don’t see many bands do. Bandera

Next we went to see Bandera at Dave’s Hideaway Lounge II on N. Detroit Ave. Bandera is the house band at Dave’s Hideaway in Toledo - you can see them there every Friday and Saturday night. Whether you like country music or not you owe it to yourself to see this band at least one time (if you haven’t already). It’s one of the few bands you’ll find where each and every member sing lead vocal (and equally as well). They play a bit of something for everyone too, from modern country, to classic rock, classic country, and more. We didn’t take any pictures this time around (the dance floor was packed), but visit the Bandera MySpace profile to see pics and listen to the band.

East River Drive

Last we wound up over at Club Soda to see East River Drive. East River Drive is a 6 member band, and the best way to describe them is it’s like seeing a Vegas show. They play dance, pop, rock, R&B, Soul, and more everytime they hit the stage.

At least for the last Saturday in “Rocktober” it’s not rainy like it was last night. Cold, but not rainy! There’s always more to do and see on Saturday than Friday, and there are always more people out - because some of us are so tired after working all week we fall asleep on the couch on Friday! Good thing I rested up because there’s plenty of things to do tonight!

Wow, it’s surely gotten a bit colder this week - we even had to break down and finally turn on the heat here at the offices! I heard on the news something about an inch of snow, but I just can’t believe that would happen this early. Although - they did say we are supposed to have 11 inches of snow by Thanksgiving, so who knows! It’s the fourth week of Rocktober, and cold or not - it’s a great time to go out and see some local live entertainment.

Fall is definitely underway - I saw on the news today the first frost warning of the season. T-Town Sound was out and about watching bands on Sat Sept 6, 2008 - and we caught some different Toledo area bands out this time. We started out at the Bronze Boar and caught Dave Carpenter and the Jaeglers performing in the main room. Dave is an acoustic / alternative / folk singer and song write, and you can catch him around town singing solo - but this night he had his 4 piece band with him “The Jaeglers”. You can tell that Dave is quite passionate about his music, and he really lays it all out on the line when he sings. Next we went down to Legends (formerly the Durty Bird) on S. St Clair downtown to see “Otto’s Jacket”. The best way to describe them is probably 80’s/90’s metal rock cover band. Green Day, Judas Priest, Weezer and more, you can have a hard rockin’ good time with this band and their Marshall and Mesa stacks. Here’s some pics of the band we took at Legends…

We stopped by Main Street Bar in Sylvania to see who was on stage - and it was the classic rock cover band “Working Class Poor”. These guys were kickin’ out some Bad Company and Foghat big time! They had a great sound and the guys in the band were pretty tight. Here’s some pics of the band, sorry they aren’t the greatest because of the glaring beer signs on stage (turn ‘em off next time guys before you start!).

Our last stop was around the corner at Firehouse 47 to see the guys in “The Rayz” band. The Rayz play 80’s and modern rock covers. I’ve seen them before at the Firehouse and they do a lot of songs you won’t see other bands doing - like Sweet Child O’ Mine. Last night I caught them doing Kryptonite and Santeria. They’re playing the Bronze Boar later this month - check them out if you’re in the area.
