Partying with Toledo Bands Nov 1st, 2008

Nov 05, 2008 I Toledo Live Music.

Wow, what a week it’s been already. With the elections yesterday, and then all those Halloween parties last weekend. I finally got the time to get these pics and videos posted, something I usually get to by at least Monday or Tuesday of the following week. Last Saturday night we set out to see 3 local Toledo Bands, and we managed to catch 2 of them live.

Chris Shutters Band

First we went to see Chris Shutters over at Mulvaney’s Bunker. I had heard many great things about Chris, and somehow never got to see him in the Blade Battle of the Bands (which he won) or since. Chris performs as a duo around town on weeknights, and the full 3 piece band (Chris Shutters Band, or CSB) places on the weekend.

I wasn’t really prepared for what at saw at Mulvaney’s that night. I’ve seen a lot of bands, a lot of guitar players, and a lot of singers. I don’t think I’ve ever seen (in Toledo) anyone that was effortlessly and equally as good at both lead vocal and lead guitar that wasn’t a national act coming through town for a one night concert. On top of that his arrangements of cover songs was very unique, distinct - and far beyond what I’ve seen in any local bar.

I was able to take one video while I was there, this is “Land Down Under” (it’s a bit dark - Mulvaney’s doesn’t exactly have very good stage lighting):

I wish I would recorded his version of “Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman” for you to see, his rendition is one you won’t soon forget. If you haven’t seen Chris and his band, I would recommend going to watch them live ASAP!

Here’s some pics of the band I took while I was there:

This one pic I included for any of you guitar players out there. It’s a pic of Chris Shutters’ pedal board on the stage floor in front of him. Notice something strange about his pedals? I was wondering myself, what function exactly the bottle of hot sauce performs (LOL)?

Catch 33

Then we went to see Catch 33 over at Centre Stage - were their “Halloween Havoc” party was in full swing. Catch 33 is a 5 man cover band that plays classic, alternative, 80’s, and modern rock all over town. They put on a great show and will keep you rockin’ and dancing all night long!

I took this video of them playing “Run Juliet Run” (again, light at Centre Stage are more for dancing than recording!):

Here’s some pics of the guys in the band:
